The practical application of secondary aluminum alloys in industry is restricted by the substantial iron content present in recycled alloys. To understand how cooling rate and holding temperature affect the modification and purification of iron-rich compounds in a commercial AlSi10MnMg alloy containing 11 wt% Fe, the detrimental influence of iron was examined.
